Why BIOutside?
This fieldwork tutorial is aimed both at fieldwork participants (students and interns) and fieldwork leaders. We aim to provide guideline to help you prepare your fieldwork.
Even if you are already an experience outdoor person in your free time, fieldwork has its own particularities and we would advise you to still have a look at this tutorial. Fieldwork is different because:
- You don’t chose where and when you are going, you are following and experimental protocol;
- There is more pressure: some important scientific work might depend on the data you are suppose to collect;
- Being outdoor is not the main activity and can easily be shadowed by the science;
- There is often a fake feeling of safety: since you are at work, things should be under control;
- You might be out with a very heterogeneous group of people in terms of fitness and experience, with different priorities and tolerance to adversity.
