Before going to the field
Make sure others know where you are going. At UiB you have to register in CIM. It is also good to have colleagues/supervisors who know what you are doing where more in details (CIM is only checking that you made it back but not in between). If you are going abroad, you should check if registering at the embassy is recommended (it usually saves a significant amount of time in case of big disaster like earthquakes or pandemic).
When going to the field
Make sure that you have working communication devices with you. Typically, all the phones should be fully charged (beware of bluetooth in the car to play music, it drains the battery) and you should have powerbanks and cables. If you are going in a very remote area with poor phone signal, BIO has Garmin InReach devices to borrow. With those you can send sms through satellite phone, it works pretty much everywhere given that you are not underground.
